Snickerdoodle Tradition
Over the years of building my family, I have looked for ways to create traditions that bring warmth and expectation to my children’s hearts. I’ve learned simple traditions can be the most memorable. When my children started elementary school, I had the idea to make snickerdoodle cookies on the first and last days of school. I refrained from making these cookies any other time of the year. This simple memory would spur my children to run from the bus stop into our home with the expectation to enjoy one of their favorite cookies.
I recently broke tradition and made these “special-to-our-family cookies” for an event with friends who have become family. I kept hearing all night how good the cookies were. Soon after, requests for the recipe came across my phone. I happily shared the recipe along with the story of what it means to our family. Today, I’m sharing the recipe with you! It’s a simple cookie with great potential. As you read this post, I hope ideas are spurred in you for family traditions that create belonging and love in your home.
Here’s to baking up some memories!
Ingredients:
1 cup of shortening (crisco butter flavor)
1 and 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 and 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
Separate Mixture: 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon and 2 tablespoons white sugar
Instructions:
Combine shortening and sugar in mixer. Add eggs one at a time. Mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, tartar, and salt. Mix dry ingredients with wet ingredients. Use a cookie scoop to form dough into balls. Roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake at 325 for 13-15 minutes. Transfer to wire rack. Enjoy warm or cooled or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
*Cookies can be stored in room temperature container for two days.
*Add a slice of bread to the container to keep the cookies fresh. The bread will absorb the air keeping cookies from getting hard.
Here are my favorite baking supplies for this recipe.
The parchment paper sheets are easy to grab and place on my baking sheets. I use them a lot! These baking sheets are work horses in the kitchen. They don’t warp and are budget friendly! I love the stainless magnetic measuring spoons that also save space in my kitchen drawer.
